the blog's dead zz
shit this song's just like us

"...Break a window and bust a wall,
making fun of your friends mom
Turn the music up way too loud,
Charge the pizza to the house
Everybody would waste it all,
to have a summer that they could call
Memory that's full of fun,
fucked up when it's all done

On and on, reckless abandon
Something's wrong, this is gonna shock them
Nothing to hold on to
We'll use this song to lead you on
And break the truth with more bad news

We left a scar size extra large..."

Adding on the the MV spam, here are some music which I sincerely think is better than A7X and more pleasant to the ears. And Quanwei, for the record, my music taste is not confined to God Is An Astronaut. :O

Hey dudes,

It's a long time since i posted an MV lol.

Although, captain jairus would probably say the MV is as corny as wolverine walking away from the helicopter and ka chwa will be like wtf is this. But yeah i think this is some damn sad and cool shit, and i think jong agrees, although marcus probably doesn't. That is if anyone even reads the blog...A7X rocks

Hey everyone, well, I guess the races of our lives begin tomorrow. It seems so surreal huh, something so routine about to climax into the most exciting, intense and brutal minutes of our lives thus far.

One year ago, I couldn't even fathom that this day would come. But it did. And over this past year, despite the many down-moments and painful times, I have no qualms to say that my decision to join canoeing was the best decision I've made in my time in Raffles - and I believe that for most of you guys, the same applies. What really defined this experience for me was the people around me, all you crazy gay bunch of guys. I don't know what to say really except a big big THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart - for being there for me, helping me conquer myself and most importantly, for all the fun and unforgettable moments that dot my otherwise mundane existence. I hope I've been a good teammate and friend to you guys too.

Tomorrow onwards, we'll all be out in the water fighting to prove to no-one but ourselves that the sacrifices that we've put in to chase this dream has always been worth it. The opportunity cost is indeed high, but I guess this makes it all the more bittersweet. On a personal note, as an underdog, I know I have my work cut out for me. But as chuan said, who the hell cares? If your best is not enough, know deep down that your best effort is. We've put in an honest day's work and really, regardless of the outcome, I believe we are all winners - in our own right. And this I guess, is what really matters.

I've nothing else really special to say before I turn in for the night. Everything have been encapsulated in the beautiful eulogies by marcus and chuan below. Just remember to unleash that monster within you for the very last time and savour the brutality that you're going to subject your body to. For we only live once.

Dooooodss

It's nationals in 2 days, and no matter how much i have grumbled, cursed and raged for the past month, theres nothing that can describe how i feel about it. I know we've heard jairus' cries for blood and passionate pleas for us to put in our all countless times, and this in comparison may seem like just another pointless rallying call or pathetic attempt at a motivating speech from a much less sexy source, BUT I REALLY HOPE YOU GUYS WILL READ THROUGH THIS. I may seem imperiously hypocritical and skeptical at times, and i don't often talk of wdv spirit or Rafflesian pride or blah, but for the first time since my epic inter primary school chess championship (open category) 2002, I'M FUCKING PUMPED UP. in fact maybe even a little more.

Over the past year we've grown as a team, from a bunch of immature j1s who thought doing a billion chin ups made them champions, to a seasoned group of j2s who have probably not touched the chin up bar in quite a while, but now know what true champions are truly made up of. And thats us guys, champions.

Yes, so what if some of us screwed up NJCC(pointed glance at myself), so what if some of us think jiaolian's just putting us in our event for kicks, or that we don't even stand a chance against the might of NJ/AC/megamjmonsters. The fact that we can pull on our jersey with the crest of Raffles, row till our lungs are exploding for our school, and vindicate the year of blood and sweat we have sacrificed, should be more than enough to motivate us to give our best. And just think, whether we are first, third, or knnccb last, you'll hear the cries of raffles and your team mates shouting your name as you cross the finishing line. Which other school can say that. NJ finshes to the polite applause of uninterested bystanders, AC come in first to the national team coach going "that was 80percent not 100percent", and mj probably tops off their efforts with a nice 1.5l bottle protein shake at the end.

We've all seen chinks letter and i think its uber inspiring. He tells us that while getting back our 3rd placing is super important, there are other more important things. Honestly i couldn't agree more. i know that on a personal note, making semis let alone finals for my events are a long shot, but who the hell cares. If at the end of the race i am tearing, dying, struggling to breathe, gasping for air as i try to tell james i love you bitch,or even capping with exhaustion, i will know that i have done my best and even if it was not enough, i will have no regrets. I will jst climb on to shore and shout like a crazy mofo for our k4, watching as jong moves his jaw like some guailan chainsaw with a zombie-like glint in his eye.

Why? because when all this is over and we become fair fat wussies, we're gonna remember these sort of things. We're not gonna go "eh, marcus, remember the time i did sixtytrillion 30stroke starting burst" or "eh remember when zhengxiao did 20 seconds for his 200m?". Nope, all those will be forgotten. Instead, we'll recall with fondness the time JP raped jairus in his cubicle, when eugne educated us sexually, when qianwei showed us those hairless armpits. Thats what makes us a team, and thats what i'm gonna be thinking about when i finish my last race for raffles. Every single stroke you are going to take is no longer for yourself, but for the guys who have gone the whole way with you, fought the good fight, battled to the very end. As you near the last two buoys and last 15 strokes, you're gonna know who you're rowing for. With each stroke, you're gonna dedicate it to the one guy that made your journey so much better at the expense of himself.

Jairus.
Kenneth.
Marcus.
John Paul.
James.
Jong.
Zhengxiao.
Stuart.
Chuanyaw (ok i wont think of myself lah but i wanna write my name shuddup).
Qianwei.
Changzhong.
Leonard.
Quanwei.
Eugene.
Ansai.

And when you finish, these very people are gonna be standing on the shore, looking into your eyes. Proud of you for doing your best, for not giving up. I know each and everyone of us is gonna do this, give everything and hold back nothing, and in so doing, render the result no longer important. Not because we are still more handsome, but because no one can tell us oh shit if you had just put in a little more effort, or wlau if you hadn't started to slow down at the end. Because we've done our best, and if thats not enough than nothing ever will be.

Remember our team contract. Medals and glory are transient, your legacy as a Raffles Canoeist is forever. What legacy? Sure, no ones gonna remember your name 20 years down the road unless you totally rape the entire macritchie and do a monstrous 122 for k1500 breaking all existing world records, but who the hell cares. The legacy you leave, will be an indelible imprint on yourself. When you're a lao ah pei doing vocal screaming exercises along the shore of macritchie in abt 5decades time, you'll see nelo's and peishengs flying down the lanes, and you'll smile to yourself.

Hell yes. Been there, done that.

The correlation between an athlete’s motivation and performance

What causes an athlete to fight through a difficult workout knowing that all they have to look forward to is the next workout? What causes an athlete to push their body to its limit each and every time they step on the field knowing that their only reward is another tally in the win column? What causes an athlete to endure the pain that inevitably results from both situations with seemingly nothing to gain? The answer is simple desire. The desire to win will cause an athlete to push through a grueling workout or a stressful game just to be the best.

All of the top athletes have one thing in common. They all want to be the best. This desire to beat any and all challengers is what separates them from the average player of the game. This difference cannot always be seen. Through most of their lives these two groups of people look very similar. They all seem to be just ordinary people carrying out daily tasks. The difference can only be seen when they step onto the field or into the gym. Before a workout or before a game is the point where the similarity is brutally murdered. This is when the warrior inside the best athletes comes out from within. This warrior is always hungry, feeding on the prospect of the next win. This warrior is the companion that helps the hungry athlete through every workout. This warrior is the companion the pushes the hungry athlete to leave everything on the field to make sure that they come away with a win.

The athlete who works hard to feed his inner warrior will be successful every time they step on the field, ready to win. The lazy athlete who allows his inner warrior to grow fat and lazy will be all alone when they step on the field, waiting to lose. This inner warrior is called motivation. Strong motivation will help an athlete rise to the top. A lack of motivation will leave an athlete at the bottom of the barrel where they belong. Motivation is the key to an unpassable door to performance. Those athletes who possess this key will be allowed to unleash their inner warrior to wreak havoc among those who are forced to wait outside the door. When the chaos is done, the motivated athlete will be the only one left standing. They will have only one thing on their mind; heading back to the gym for the next grueling workout.

How to prepare for a big sporting event #1

Preparation is essential to success in any big sporting event. Physical and mental preparation are the key components to a good performance when show time rolls around. All athletes handle these steps differently, physical preparation depends on what kind of event, and mental preparation is specific to every athelete individially.

Physical preparation differs from event to event and each athlete should know how to train properly to prepare for the pending event. Hydration and sleep for the days before an event are essential. Also it should be noted that on the day of an event an athlete should never lounge around all day trying to "conserve" energy. They will find themselves much more tired then if they get out and stay busy until event time. Even walking through a mall is adequate, just something to prevent a lazy mindset.

Mental preparation is very unique to each athelete and should be taken very seriously. The older an athlete gets, the more they reailze the power of mental preparation and a positive appropriate mindset. If an athelte has any sort of superstition or ritual this athelete should follow this ritual and not worry about what people around them are saying or thinking. It should be noted that these rituals are not to become more important than the event itself, but superstition and ritual ensure that the athlete is preparing for the event and starting to get mentally ready. Positive thoughts should always be running through an athletes mind, and whatever that athlete needs to get motivated, that athlete should do regardless of judgement from those who see them prepare. Reading quotes or articles that inspire, listening to music or just being around the venue itself often inspire athletes to perform at their best. Often times even an injured athlete can overcome the restrictions of the injury by preparing the mind to tell the body that "it can, and it will". The power of the mind can not be talked about but rather experienced. Challenge your body with the power of the mind. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Immediately prior to the event starting an athlete should have no question if their body is ready or not. A mental state should be achieved where the athelte is committed to the task at hand and all the world around should slip away for this desired time to compete. Getting in the zone where everything slips away and you allow yourself to become engulfed in the moment is a sure sign that an athlete will perform at his or her best.

How to prepare for a big sporting event #2

Many people have theories about how to prepare for a big sporting event. A lot of these things have no real effect on the athlete's performance in their event. Here are some tried and true methods that have been proven to improve athlete performance.

First, the athlete must hydrate. This process takes quite some time. Usually the morning before the event is the time to begin the hydration process. Water is the preferred method, in whatever form. Flavored water is also fine. During this time, however, try to avoid drinks like Gatorade, because they will make you thirstier, due to the high sugar content.

Also, it is imperative that the athlete obtain a full night's rest. A good amount of sleep before a big sporting event is around 7-8 hours. Any more than that, and the body will begin another sleep cycle, thereby leaving the athlete tired when he or she wakes up. Any less, and the body will not have had time to recharge fully for the competition the following day.

The third and final prong of the preparation process is visualization. Many people mention this as an essential preparation tool, but few truly know how to visualize productively. Visualization is of no use if it cannot be applied to the sporting event. Proper visualization does not include a person having success at their sport, it includes practicing the mechanics of that sport perfectly. Athletes should invision themselves perfectly repeating the motions of their respective sport. This, during competition, will allow the athlete to feel as though they have practiced this movement many times, and will allow the athlete to be less nervous during competition.

If an athlete practices all of the above before heading onto the field of battle for a big sports event, they will be at their best, no matter how tough the competition is.

12 Steps To Turbo-Charge Your Sports Visualization and Mental Toughness

1. Every night, half an hour before retiring, go to your room, where you can be entirely alone and as remote as possible from noise and distraction.

2. Seat yourself in a wide and comfortable chair, or, better still, lie down on your back at full length. See that your clothing is loosened, so that you will suffer no distressing annoyance on this account. Compose yourself as if for sleep, assuming a position of restfulness, abandon and utter relaxation. Close your eyes, letting the lids rest lightly on your cheeks.

3. Shut your mind resolutely against every form of bodily sensation. Forget for the time that you are encumbered with a body.

4. Bar out of your consciousness every memory, every thought of the past.

5. Build a mental picture of the thing you want to have, to do or to be - the one thing that you immediately desire first and most of all. By this we mean nothing indefinite. We do not refer to ultimate aims that can come only as the result of long periods of effort. We mean something specific, something that can be yours tomorrow, something that in itself constitutes the next step in your chosen career.

6. See yourself finding the ways and means of realizing your desire, overcoming obstacles one after another, all the obstacles that can possibly arise. See yourself called upon to display, and displaying, alertness, promptness, courage, confidence, resourcefulness, patience, push, enterprise, expert knowledge, insight, shrewdness, tact, self-control, decision. See yourself face to face with the situation that confronts you in real life and manifesting the qualities and doing the things necessary to your purpose. Put yourself body and soul into this picture. Multiply details. Rivet your mind upon it.

7. Advance step by step, logically, wisely, consistently, to the climax of the drama. See yourself winning out. See yourself solving the problem, getting the thing you want, acting the part you desire to play. Detach your spirit from the flesh of this world and incorporate it in the mental image of yourself. Live the victory mentally until a sense of its reality permeates your soul.

8. Make your dream picture as delightful as possible. Dwell upon it with joyful satisfaction. Warm your heart with a feeling of thankfulness that that which you have so long desired is really yours. This feeling of gratitude, this emotional element, will bring forth associations that will give life to the picture and will animate your faith. Keep yourself tight shut in this dream world for at least fifteen minutes.

9. Arise and make your preparations for the night. Then upon retiring once more close your eyes and let your mind dwell upon your vision for five or ten minutes or until you fall asleep. Let it be the last thing in your thoughts as you become unconscious.

10. Every time you are awake during the night call the mental picture before you and keep it in consciousness as long as you remain awake.

11. In the morning, immediately upon awaking, repeat the procedure set out in the third, fourth and fifth instructions.

12. The more of your spare time you spend in this way, the more promptly will you actualize your ideals. By repeated concentration, every detail of the image of your desire will be so deeply engraved upon your mind as to exert an influence throughout the day. It will inhibit wasteful emotions and impulses. It will give you poise and self-possession. It will so inspire you with its promise as to awaken an energizing response in the profoundest depths of your sub consciousness.
